Overview
The Historic Muckenthaler Mansion is located on 9 acres of park-like grounds. With a vista of gently rolling gardens, swaying palms, and picturesque architecture, we have the ideal setting for your special day!
The Mansion, built in the 1920’s, has one of a kind architecture making it a stunning backdrop for your wedding. Ceremonies are held in the intimate Italian Garden, enclosed with lush palm trees and foliage. Sit down receptions can be held indoors for up to 120 guests. Outdoor receptions are located on the Adella Lawn.

What Type Of Bridal Couple Would Like This Place?
There seems to be an awful lot of these older mansion type of places for rent in Southern California. For example there is the Lindly Scott House and the Jones Victorian Estate. They all tend to offer the same type of thing, large classic mansions that aren't used for receptions, garden ceremonies with mostly outdoor reception (Lindly Scott now has an indoor facility). The Muckethaler is a little different because it's not just a place for rent for weddings, it's also an art museum. The day that I went there for a wedding there were a group of elderly ladies who have take night a week to get together, paint, and drink Bloody Mary's. They called themselves "The Bloody Marys" and held their first exhibit.

venue, and want it outdoors. With all that being said, there is a certain risk in using this place during the rainy seasons or when the temperature gets nasty hot such as August. The grounds are gorgeous and there are plenty of good places for photographs at this facility.
One thing that wedding coordinators do is ask a bridal couple about their priorities. Is it dancing, drinking, food? If food is a priority they suggest Colette's Catering. I have to say that I am very impressed with Colette's Catering. Their food is wonderful!

Photographic Potential
The property is large enough to get plenty of different looks. The grounds are nice. The only thing that would improve the property would be to erect a huge waterfall at an underutilized portion of the property. Other than that, it's very nice, very safe for a choice of locations for a wedding with plenty of nice settings.
Possible Distractions/ Work Around
The overall thing to watch out for when you have that takes place outdoors is that you will be exposing your guests to the elements. Excessive heat, winds or rain cannot be dealt with easily. You may want to talk to them about backup plans in case the worst case scenario suddenly becomes a reality. The museum is open when you will be getting ready, Though you are secluded from the general public in your changing rooms if you choose to take pictures in advance certain areas may be off limits or not as accessible as you may like. for example, we had a couple who wanted to meet each other on the stairs prior to their wedding, yet the stairs were at the entrance of the museum, and they weren't going to move an elderly woman who was in the way of this event out of the way. It didn't ruin the picture but the staff was quite adamant about not disturbing guests.

Overall Evaluation
This place is certainly a nice option for a venue to host a wedding and/or reception. The grounds are large, the staff is good, the catering is top notch, and thus there isn't much really to say about this place other than to visit it and see if it strikes you as something doable. It would probably be most ideal for a reception from May to July. A wedding we did at this venue in October had the problem of Santa Ana's nearly blowing the event out of existence. They have off season rentals but the thing about Southern California is that a winter day could be miserable or one of the most pleasant days of the year. If you don't like the uncertainty of outdoor receptions stick to Hotels and golf course. If you are willing to take the gamble, check this place out, it really is a nice venue!
