Churches

Many churches don't feel or believe that they are in business.  They are a place of higher religious principals.  Yet, they are in a business.  They need to attract donations, and keep people showing up.  A wedding is a perfect opportunity to associate with a young couple and make a connection for hopefully a long term relationship.  We've seen far too many churches blow this opportunity and leave the couple with a bad taste in their mouth.

We would like to point the fingers squarely at the church, but really it's a two way street.  The churches have been compromised by one too many brides who wanted to bend the rules of the church to suit their needs. Therefore, they have had to take a hard line.  However, we've been at weddings where the bridal couple has some kind of  special relationship with the church, and rules are gladly bent.  We would love to see this more often.

In Southern California we have some very pretty churches,  But just to warn you, the more beautiful and more sought after a church is, the more often they tend lay their rules down thick.  From our perspective the rules that tie the photographers hands ultimately hurt the client more than the photographer.  One church coordinator was so proud of the fact that she insists photographers stay outside the church  during the service and shoot though a back window.   Boy, won't those pictures come out great!

The rules of the church are the rules. They hardly if ever change. So before you select a church, have them go over the rules with you so you can decide if you can live with them, or if your needs are better suited elsewhere.
